Washington, D.C.

The White House Historical Association today announced its collaboration with two celebrated American companies to launch a new educational enterprise, “The People’s House: A White House Experience.” Apple, a global leader in technology and innovation, and defense tech industry leader Lockheed Martin have made commitments to support The People’s House and the Association’s mission to educate and expand access to White House history.

Apple made a transformative investment to help build, launch, and sustain the innovative content of The People’s House experience. Apple’s investment will help ensure the White House Historical Association can continue to build upon a commitment to civics education and offer engaging learning experiences for future generations.

“At Apple, we’re proud to support this effort to illuminate the rich history of our nation,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “The People’s House will allow visitors to explore the White House in completely new ways, helping foster a deeper understanding of America’s past. We know it will be a valuable resource for many years to come.”

Headquartered in nearby Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin is also making a significant investment in The People’s House. As the parent company of Sikorsky, the manufacturer of the President’s helicopter commonly known as Marine One, Lockheed Martin maintains a storied connection to the White House and the presidency. Lockheed Martin’s support of The People’s House further illustrates the company’s commitment to innovation and the promotion of White House history.

“The People's House is a powerful symbol of democracy and the values that unite us," said Jim Taiclet, Chairman, President and CEO of Lockheed Martin. "We are honored to be part of this historic effort to create an educational experience that brings our nation’s executive mansion to life and makes that accessible in new ways."

“The vision and generous contributions from these iconic American companies will fuel our scholarship and research and grow the enterprise that will permit hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to learn about the rich history of our nation through the lens of the White House,” said Stewart McLaurin, President of the White House Historical Association. “These partners will accelerate and amplify our ongoing mission to preserve the legacy of the White House and give back to the public through our new educational space.”

Situated at 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the 33,000-square-foot three-floor site will feature exhibits and galleries bringing the White House and its storied history to life. Visitors will interact with a large-scale White House model, recreation of the Rose Garden, full-scale replica of the Oval Office, recreation of White House moments and more dimensional galleries combining immersive media and inventive scenic representation. There is also space designated as classrooms for teachers and students to further explore exhibit content and a convening space for educational programming.

The People’s House will open to the public on September 23, 2024, and free timed entry passes are available to reserve.

About the White House Historical Association

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy envisioned a restored White House that conveyed a sense of history through its decorative and fine arts. She sought to inspire Americans, especially children, to explore and engage with American history and its presidents. In 1961, the nonprofit, nonpartisan White House Historical Association was established to support her vision to preserve and share the Executive Mansion’s legacy for generations to come. Supported entirely by private resources, the Association’s mission is to assist in the preservation of the state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House. Since its founding, the Association has given more than $115 million to the White House in fulfillment of its mission.
