This photograph of President Ronald Reagan and staff was taken on January 28, 1986 as taped coverage of the tragic explosion of the Challenger space shuttle is relayed to those in the room. The nationally televised disaster killed all seven of the crew members aboard, resulting in the president delaying his State of the Union address, which was to be delivered later that day, in order to address the catastrophe instead.
