The Beach from the Cliff-House near San Francisco, California painted in 1886 by Peter Petersen Toft is one of two watercolor landscapes of the American seaside acquired for the White House by First Lady Caroline Harrison in 1890. Removed to storage in 1913, it was recently found in the collection of the Decatur House.
