Welcome to the White House Historical Association's History Happy Hour! We're thrilled to have you join our community of history enthusiasts who share a passion for exploring history (and happy hour!) through the lens of the White House. To ensure that our gatherings remain informative, respectful, and non-partisan, we've put together these community guidelines. These guidelines are designed to foster a positive and inclusive environment for all attendees.

Ultimately, you are responsible for your conduct and communications while attending History Happy Hour gatherings. We reserve the right to prohibit you from participating in future gatherings if you fail to abide by these guidelines.

  1. Respectful Discourse: We value open discussions and diverse perspectives. Please engage in respectful conversations, even if you disagree with someone's viewpoint. Personal attacks, offensive language, hateful and/or violent speech, discriminatory and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  2. Non-Partisan Atmosphere: Our primary focus is on history and its significance. While historical events and figures can sometimes evoke passionate feelings, we ask that you refrain from promoting or discussing partisan political views during our History Happy Hour sessions.
  3. Historical Accuracy: We encourage the sharing of accurate historical information and sources. If you're providing historical insights or stories, please ensure that the information you share is well-researched and reliable.
  4. Inclusivity and Diversity: Our community is enriched by the diversity of its members. We celebrate and respect differences in backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Be mindful of your language and interactions to ensure that everyone feels welcome. You are prohibited from sharing abusive content, engaging in targeted harassment of someone, or inciting other people to do so.
  5. Avoiding Sensationalism: While history often involves intriguing stories, let's strive to maintain a respectful tone when discussing sensitive or controversial topics. Avoid sensationalism and instead focus on fostering understanding and thoughtful conversations.
  6. Stay On Topic: Our History Happy Hour events are centered around historical discussions. While some tangential conversations are natural, let's make an effort to keep the main discussions relevant to history, White House history, and related topics.
  7. Fact-Based Debates: Constructive debates can lead to deeper understanding. If you find yourself engaged in a debate, base your arguments on well-researched facts, and maintain a civil and thoughtful demeanor.
  8. No Promotional Content or Unlawful Purpose: Our History Happy Hour is not a platform for attendees’ self-promotion or promotion of external causes, products, or services. Similarly, it may not be used for any unlawful purpose or in furtherance of illegal activities, including selling, buying, or facilitating transactions in illegal goods or services, as well as certain types of regulated goods or services. Please keep your contributions relevant to the historical discussions.
  9. Reporting Concerns: If you encounter any content or behavior that violates these guidelines or makes you uncomfortable, please report it to the moderators or hosts. We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful space for everyone.
  10. Enjoy and Learn: Above all, our goal is to foster a welcoming and educational experience for all participants. Let's enjoy our shared love for history, engage in insightful discussions, and learn from one another.
  11. Copyright and Trademark: You may not violate others’ intellectual property rights, including copyright and trademark.
