This photograph captures Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain as she and President George H. W. Bush plant a little-leaf linden tree on the South Lawn of the White House Grounds on May 14, 1991. Queen Elizabeth visited the White House as part of an official State Visit. This tree replaced the one planted by President Franklin Roosevelt in honor of King George VI's coronation in 1937--the tree had been toppled by a storm a year earlier. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth's husband, and First Lady Barbara Bush observe the ceremony from afar. The Bushes also hosted Queen Elizabeth II for a State Dinner that evening.
