History Happy Hour is a weekly virtual program hosted by the White House Historical Association. Join us as experts weigh in on a variety of historical topics, share their insights, answer audience questions, and enjoy presidential-inspired libations.
On April 9, we welcome special guest Clifton Truman Daniel, the eldest grandson of President Harry S. Truman and his wife, Bess. Mr. Daniel will share insight into the Truman Restoration Project. The project was a comprehensive dismantling and rebuilding of the interior of the White House between 1949-1952. This was necessary after a century-and-a-half of wartime destruction and reconstruction, hurried renovations, additions of new services and technologies, and inadequate foundations that brought the Executive Residence to near-imminent collapse.
Kicking off our History Happy Hour will be Wesley Truman Daniel, great-grandson of Harry and Bess Truman. Wesley will be mixing a classic old-fashioned, a favorite Truman cocktail!
