The Association is seeking a Full-Time Visitor Services Representative for "The People's House: A White House Experience."

Position Summary

This position will report directly to the Director of Visitor Services and Experiences, The People's House. The ideal candidate for this position would be a friendly, energetic individual who enjoys interacting with visitors, staff, trustees, volunteers and members, connecting people with the organization and its resources.

The Full-Time Visitor Services Representative will:

  1. Perform the daily operations of the front desk, providing excellent customer service by contributing to a warm and welcoming environment.
  2. Perform duties related to ticket entry, including orienting visitors, making public announcements, and scanning passes.
  3. Greet patrons visiting The People's House as well as provide museum guides and maintain stocks of literature for events and programs.
  4. Perform daily opening and closing procedures as well as basic security monitoring functions to maintain awareness of who is present in the building.
  5. Act as Floor Captains for all exhibition levels.
  6. Perform all duties required with a floor docent in exhibit spaces, including bring knowledgeable about the exhibits, the stories, and the White House Historical Association.
  7. Address visitor concerns and make referrals to the appropriate personnel when appropriate.
  8. Assist in the processes for all ticket reservations and the group visits calendar (via Veevart) for field trips, tour groups, and adult learning programming.
  9. Ensure that all accessibility devices are charged and functioning for all visitors who might require additional assistance.
  10. Be knowledgeable about White House Historical Association membership benefits.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required, bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent job experience.
  • Prior customer service, retail, and/or security experience required.
  • Excellent customer service and communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of business office applications including email, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications preferred.
  • Weekends and holidays required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Position requires frequent, sustained periods of standing and movement.

Job Details:

  • Type: Full-time
  • Generally, works 40 hours per week
  • Flex Schedule and rotating days off
  • Must be available to work on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Compensation: Hourly pay $19.50
  • Benefits: 403(B), health, dental, vision insurance, paid time off, employee discounts
  • Location: On-site

The White House Historical Association is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization founded in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion. For more than sixty years, the Association has produced award­ winning books on a wide range of subjects related to the history of the President's House and has actively fulfilled its educational mission with robust educational programming and retail offerings.

"The People's House: A White House Experience" is a cutting-edge education center that will tell the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions. It will feature exhibits and galleries that bring the White House and its storied history to life. Set to open in September 2024.
